Gold purity

Thai gold 96.5% vs 99.99%: purity, quotes, and calculation

Compare 96.5% and 99.99% gold by purity, quote format, weight unit, and recorded cost before calculating a Thai gold value.

Short answer: Gold marked 96.5% and 99.99% has different purity. Do not apply a price for one standard directly to the other. Confirm purity, product form, weight unit, and quote side from a consistent source first.

What the percentages describe

  • 96.5% is common in Thailand’s domestic gold market for bars and ornaments in locally quoted formats.
  • 99.99% contains a higher proportion of pure gold and may be quoted through different markets or units.

Purity alone does not determine the final value. Weight, item form, buy or sell side, and dealer conditions also matter.

Do not mix incompatible quotes and units

Answer four questions before calculating:

  1. What purity is marked for the item?
  2. Is it a bar or an ornament?
  3. Is the quote per Thai gold baht, gram, or troy ounce?
  4. Is the task a purchase, resale, or portfolio estimate?

If those inputs do not match, do not multiply them directly. Review the Thai gold weight formula and bar-versus-ornament comparison first.

Recording purity in a portfolio

Keep the item type and receipt information consistent with the actual purchase. Do not silently convert the purity or price to make it fit another standard. If an app does not have a dedicated field, use a clear item name and retain the receipt as the source record.

An app estimate does not test purity or guarantee a resale quote.
